This dataset includes 23 TIFF files showing apprentice bonds from Lancaster County in Virginia. They were used to bind a young person to a master craftsman or tradesman. The apprentice provides work in exchange for training, food, and lodging. These documents were collected in association with the Dangerous Harbor Project which used courthouse documents to identify escaped unfree laborers in the 17th century Chesapeake and the punishments associated with their escape.
