This dataset contains five DNA sequences that are PCR amplicons of the cytochrome b gene from the white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). The study aimed to detect this species using environmental DNA (eDNA) methods, targeting the cytochrome b gene due to its conservation within the mitochondrial genome and its divergence from the closely related Isurus oxyrinchus. The sequences display high similarity to the target species and marked differences from the relative species. These results suggest successful detection of C. carcharias through water sample collection, filtration, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, sequencing of the amplicons, and subsequent BLAST analysis.
